The intentional design of our state-of-the-art Academy was created to foster togetherness where friends and family alike can train with one another while enjoying all the benefits of a safe environment. You may be aware that we have taken a series of preventative steps in response to the developing public health concerns, including increased additional cleaning and disinfecting procedures for our industry-leading Dollamur mats as well as the training pads and gear.

In addition to her extensive martial arts training, Mrs. Garza has spent the last 15 years as an Analytical Chemist specializing in clinical diagnostic testing and wisely chooses non-toxic, low-volatile disinfectants that effectively reduce potential contagions.

It’s important to Invictus Martial Arts and to you, our community, that we take every precaution to minimize the impact of potentially irritating fumes and vapors that are often found in harsh industrial solvents by using more natural, organic solutions like essential oils.

Fortunately, our bathrooms support your well-being by having touchless toilets, hands-free faucets, motion-sensing LED lights, and automatic soap and towel dispensers. Bathroom garbages are conveniently located near the exit of each of our spacious bathrooms so that a paper towel can be used to sanitarily exit.

Additionally, every member is required to purchase their own gear to not only encourage continuous improvement through practice and training at home but to also help support good health by reducing borrowing gear. This empowers each member of our community to take charge of their own wellness knowing that clearly Invictus supports your health and happiness.

Lastly, since opening, Invictus Martial Arts has conveniently installed two touchless hand sanitizer stations with highly-effective, foaming hand sanitizer biocide (superior to leading alcohol-based equivalents) which leaves no unpleasant scent or uncomfortable residue. The therapeutic properties of the hand sanitizer we use is anti-fungal, anti-viral, and anti-bacterial as recognized by the FDA & EPA. It easily and quickly kills up to 99.99% of germs and keeps working for 3+ hours after application.

The Self-Defense Move You NEED To Know

All self-defense begins with a mindset: you MUST have the will to win and survive at all costs. Meaning, a person needs to definitively decide ahead of time what they are willing to do and not do to avoid becoming a victim.

Here’s why this data matters… someone with violent intent can be anyone at any time, anywhere. The Navy SEALs have a saying, “Under pressure, you don’t rise to the occasion, you sink to the level of your training.” This means that training is a must and a person must actively refuse to leave personal safety up to chance.

What Is The Best Age To Start Martial Arts?

In 2010, my world as I knew it changed. As we shared our first of many silent gazes, I embraced his small body and with it, my newest identity: Mom. His Mom. The magnitude of that moment was palpable. It was suddenly up to me to provide for him, to care for him, and to protect him. In the coming weeks, that would mean nursing him every two hours, changing countless diapers, gently washing the wisps of his hair, and above all, showing him what love felt like daily. As he matured into a toddler, it would mean, making sure he was eating his fruits and vegetable, teaching him colors and shapes and manners, wiping away tears and kissing away “boo-boos”- the gifts of curiosity and ambition, and above all else, showing him what love looked like daily. 

Before I knew it, I was writing his initials on school supplies, packing his lunchbox, and fighting back my own tears as I watched him confidently walk into his kindergarten class for the first time. And as I watched the door close behind him, questions flooded in: Would he make good friends quickly? What if other kids picked on him? Would he be afraid? Who would protect him when I couldn’t? But as quickly as these questions threatened to consume me, all at once, I felt a calm wash over me. Why? Because I had given my son a pre-school gift: the gift of martial arts training.

You see, I knew a day would come when I wouldn’t be able to protect him, so I wanted to give him the next best thing: the knowledge and ability to protect himself.

My son started training in martial arts when he was only three years old. It began as a fun outlet for his exuberant energy but the value he received from starting his training at such an early age was so much more. As a result of his martial arts training, he learned how to focus on a task and follow directions. He discovered the importance of setting goals and working hard to achieve them.  He learned to respect his instructors, his peers, and himself. Additionally, he developed self-confidence and learned about the responsibility that comes with being recognized as a leader. He gained an understanding of how to protect himself and others through various examples of self-defense. And he experienced the value of community and friendship.

So, when is the best age to start martial arts? As soon as you want your child to experience these benefits for themself.

Unfortunately, most martial arts schools will not train children under 6 years old. And even if you happen to find a school that will train a 3-5 year old, most likely, they are expected to train in a class with older children and even adults, and they are taught techniques and skills that may not be as beneficial to them at their young age.

As co-owner of Invictus Martial Arts, it became my passion to develop and facilitate a martial arts program specifically tailored to the unique learning style, pace, and energy of 3-5 year olds. Our Tiny Titans program uses age-appropriate martial arts lessons that target physical, mental, emotional, and social development. Best of all, our unique curriculum employs specific martial arts drills that prepare pre-school aged children to successfully meet the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) kindergarten standards. 

Frederick Douglass said, “It’s easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.”

Our goal with the Tiny Titans program is to do just that: build strong children that embrace challenges, enjoy effort, are intrigued by mistakes, and chose to always keep learning.

What is K-1 Kickboxing?

K-1 is a modern martial art that was first conceptualized in 1980 and started in Japan as a competition. It eventually became popularized as a world sport by 1993.

K-1 Kickboxing is a stand-up martial art that initially combined karate, kickboxing (Dutch, Savate, Muay Thai, and Western), and kung fu (hence, the “K”). The “1” resembles the combative element of the style which sought to find the best of the best through competition.

At Invictus Martial Arts, you can earn multiple ranks of black belt in K-1 Kickboxing in a safe and fun training environment. Invictus members also benefit from practicing MMA grappling and learning Gracie Combatives (Jiu-Jitsu).

All of our memberships are geared towards training in community which means that families who belong always save more.

On Saturday, December 14th, Invictus hosted its biannual celebration – The Black Belt Commencement.

The six black belts ranging in promotion rank from 1st Dan to 3rd Dan have been testing for their next rank since August 2019. The commencement culminated with dynamic performances showcasing their skills and abilities and a heartfelt ceremony.

We’re so grateful for our black belts’ commitment to practice and persevere as martial arts athletes and honored to have them and their families as valuable members of our community.

Invictus Martial Arts Premier Training Facility Now Open in Northwest Austin

Invictus Martial Arts has opened a new state-of-the-art facility located at the SW corner of N. Lake Creek Pkwy. and Lakeline Mall Dr. across from the Lakeline Super Target in Northwest Austin. 

If you’re a person between the ages of 3 and 93, you’re invited to experience the power of belonging! We’re a passionate community of life-long learners committed to training and developing a martial arts way of life persevering through obstacles and always giving our best. Whether training together in class or easily managing your membership online through our website, at Invictus Martial Arts, you belong,” said co-owner and head instructor, Mr. Dave Hackbarth. 

The owners set out with the vision of designing a one-of-a-kind training facility from the ground up in order to offer a world-class experience for everyone who walks through their door. “At Invictus Martial Arts, everything is by design. Our students will be training on the industry’s highest quality Dollamur Swain Hybrid tatami mats under anti-fatigue LED lighting while spectators can enjoy high-speed WiFi and complimentary coffee in our hospitality suite. And because we’re committed to sustainability and health, all our guests can benefit from our filtered water bottle refilling station,” said co-owner and program director, Mrs. Selynda Garza. 

It’s rare to find an opportunity where families can participate together. That’s what sets Invictus Martial Arts apart.
